Welcome Premarital Educators
Premarital education has neglected wedding planning because of an understandable belief that couples should be focusing more on their future marriage than on their wedding. But we have largely ignored what is actually preoccupying most couples—how to navigate the planning process for the most complex logistical and interpersonal event of adult life. As educators, we know that the first principle of adult learning is to take people where they are, and for most engaged couples, this means wedding planning. If we embrace wedding planning as a learning opportunity, new possibilities open up to help couples learn life-long lessons about their own teamwork under stress, their relationships with parents and siblings and in-laws, and about the dynamics of extended families. We have found that wedding planning is the ideal time to bring family systems theory into the education of couples. Couples who have taken the program report less stress in the months leading up to their wedding, more ability to handle the pressures as they come, and more wisdom to carry over to their marriage. Ways you can use The First Dance:
NEW! Use our site to list YOUR premarital classes or premarital counseling services. We are high ranking in all states we have had counselors (and are growing in the new states we just set up to list our telecourses.) - Group setting of 3-7 couples. You can be listed for our couples interested in a group experience. Learn a lot more here about the class. Just let us know when you're ready to be contacted by potential couples and we can get you listed on the group page.
- The Couple DVD. This version of the DVD is aimed at individual couples and their parents. Some couples may want to purchase it after your group in order to watch it again or with their parents. If you do not have enough engaged couples at one time to offer the group program, you can recommend that couples purchase it on their own (the individual version costs 9.99) and discuss it with them later. Or you might purchase the Couple DVD ($5 marriage educator price) and give or lend it to couples.
